Why did you become a Worker Owner?: After having worked at the Hub for about 4 years and loving being part of a worker-owned coop, I wanted to take on the additional challenge and responsibility of being an owner. It’s a great gig!

Why did you become a Worker Owner?: The folks who work and shop here are truly awesome people. We're building a community where everyone can experience belonging and empowerment, whether they're commuting, gravel grinding, tooling around the lakes, shredding singletrack, or fixing up their beloved two-wheeled steed. After my first few months here, I knew I wanted to help ensure that the Hub community thrives for years to come.
DND Character Alignment: Neutral Good (Though I envy the Chaotic Good among us)
Favorite Snack: Trail mix! Must include peanuts, raisins, and chocolate (M&Ms strongly preferred).

Bike Description: My brother gave me this old 70's Schwinn about 13 years ago, and I've been riding it ever since. This winter I overhauled it with all new components, and it rides smoother than ever!

Why did you become a Worker Owner?: I grew up with my family showing me that hard work and having drive can make anything possible. So to have the opportunity to co-own a business with rad folks and work with BIKES, I jumped on it as soon as possible. I get to live my dream and the dreams of mis papás, by continuing our path so the next generation can chase their passions without compromise.

Favorite Snack: A slice of cold pizza (especially if it’s a slice from Marsu’s)

Why did you become a Worker Owner?: I started riding bikes to get out of the house and to have thinking and processing time while growing up in Texas. Over the years I kept on the bike, and even after doing other work, graduate school, and so on else, I always returned to the bike. I came to realize that instead of being a professor, there's more community good in helping people have access to the same freedom and adventure I had growing up on a bike. Bikes as a means of independent motion, space to think, space to be, or however you want it to be is liberatory.

It's a bike that's carried me over every ridable mountain in southern California, and it's an agglomeration of incompatibilities that are all mutually non-working, so it works great. Basically it's Mr. Burns' Disease Door.

Why did you become a Worker Owner?: The Hub is a special kind of bike shop from most I'd worked at, and from day one, I had aspirations of becoming a worker-owner here. After a couple-three years of learning the systems, working long hours both in the "repair cave" and at the service counter, and developing close friendships with my colleagues, it was time to take that final step and commit a little more deeply to helping a skilled and passionate group of people keep our community rolling on two wheels.
The healthcare is a nice perk on top of everything else, too!

Why did you become a Worker Owner?: Honestly? Health insurance & job security, wanting to prioritize committing to a long-term job rather than temp/seasonal work. I’d been in a leadership role and eligible to apply for worker-ownership at The Hub for several years before taking this step. I’m proud to be a co-owner of The Hub because we go out of our way to create an open environment where someone can walk in and not be turned down or scoffed at for a question or request, no matter how odd or simple.

Bike Description: Surly Pugsley in Snowblind White, fka Franklin F. Puggleton. I’ve been riding my Pug since I bought it used just before winter 2019. Together we crush anything in our path be it summer singletrack, mammoth Minnesnowta snow piles, sandy beaches, the Idaho Hot Springs MTB Route, or cruising the Midtown Greenway & around the lakes. I've even raced singlespeed Green Acres CX with it! This bike fits my body's geometry really well and I've made it a super comfy ride. Getting this bike drastically changed the trajectory of my life, and I’m forever grateful for our journey together. I also love that I can carry 2 rear wheels at the same time!
