D.I.Y. (Do it Yourself) Repair

The Hub Bike Co-op wants to empower people to take control of their own repairs and maintenance, and that's why we offer multiple ways to D.I.Y.!

If you want to work on your own bike, but don’t have the tools or the space, then come down to The Hub to take advantage of our Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.) Room at our Minnehaha location or our various Open Shop nights at our U of M Bike Center location.

D.I.Y. at Minnehaha

Our 3016 Minnehaha location is set up with 2 work stands and a collection of general and bike-specific tools to help you get your bike in the best shape possible. The D.I.Y. room is open whenever we are. We keep repair manuals on hand for reference. We do not have staff to go through every step or finish your repairs, but if you find that you need some parts while you’re working they are only a few steps away.

The D.I.Y. shop is $5/hr.

Grease Rag at U of M Bike Center

Grease Rag’s mission is to encourage and empower FTW (femme/trans/women, non-binary, and Two-Spirit) cyclists in a collaborative and fun learning environment through rides, discussions, shop nights and educational seminars in a safer space.  Our U of M Bike Center location hosts two monthly, free open shop nights for FTW cyclists.

Grease Rag happens every 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at our U of M Bike Center location. Check our calendar or Grease Rag's facebook page for the latest updates.

Open Shop at U of M Bike Center

Open shop is a $5/hr do-it-yourself night most Tuesdays and Wednesdays in season*.

Here you can work on your own bike with professional repair stands and tools. Staff will be able to offer advice, but won’t be able to cover every step or complete repairs for you. We cannot offer storage for personal bikes at The Hub, so be ready to take your bike home with you. This is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. We have 3 full-stands and tool sets, plus some additional space for smaller repairs like flat fixes.

*Please call ahead to our U of M Bike Center location with questions about space and tool availability at this open shop.
