Jesse's Salsa El Mariachi

In addition to being one of The Hub's best (and most recognizable) mechanics, Jesse is also one of the most fearless rippers in a town full of 'em. Jesse's background in BMX and MTB allows him to do bunny hops, endos, and other feats of derring-do on bikes that are utterly impractical for said purpose, including this stupidly heavy fat bike.

Q&A With Jesse

Hub:  What is your role at The Hub?
Jesse:  I do a little of everything. Warranties for the Minnehaha store, I’m a mechanic, I build bikes, I do check-in shifts to interact with people coming in with bikes that need fixing.

H:  Are you... Full-time/Year-round/Worker-Owner?
J:  I’m a Worker Owner (“WO”), which means that I have year-round hours. It takes a while to get there, I started out as seasonal, then part time next year and filling in for people whenever they needed, and it slowly worked into full time and then a WO position opened up and now I’m a WO.

H:  When did you join the Hub?
J:  Four years ago, I think. Maybe four and a half.

H:  What's your favorite part about working at The Hub?
J:  I like the fact that I don’t have anyone telling me that I need to sell something to somebody that might not need it. One of my favorite things is to be able to fix what’s broken on a bike, not necessarily have to hit a sales goal or be forced to give people stuff they don’t need.

H:  What do you do when you're outside of The Hub?
J:  I ride my bike, I work on motorcycles and fix up stuff around the house.

H:  What's most exciting to you about the new building?
J:  I’m excited about having more light in the store. The way things are stored are not on top of light fixtures or blocking light, there’s skylights, and we’re talking about having a glass door in the back, and that’s something that customers can see too. It’s just going to be a brighter, more open space.
